DTF stands for direct-to-film. It is a way of printing full-colour designs onto a special film, which you then heat press onto fabric.

How DTF printing works

Your design is printed in colour, plus a layer of white ink, onto a clear film. While the ink is still wet, an adhesive powder is applied and then cured, which leaves a ready-to-press transfer. You place the transfer on the garment and apply heat and pressure with a heat press. Once cooled, the film is peeled away and the design stays on the fabric.

What DTF is good for

  • Logos, illustrations, text and detailed graphics in full colour
  • T-shirts, hoodies, caps, bags and teamwear
  • Cotton, polyester and blended fabrics
  • Once-off custom jobs as well as repeat production

What is a gang sheet?

A gang sheet is one large sheet that holds many designs together. Because the space is used efficiently, you get better value than printing each design separately. See our gang sheet and transfer services.

Pressing your transfer

Follow the temperature, time and pressure recommended for your transfer and fabric. As a general guide, wait before washing and turn garments inside out when you do. If you are unsure, ask us when you order.

DTF or UV DTF?

DTF is for fabric. UV DTF is for hard surfaces. Read DTF vs UV DTF to choose the right one, or ask for a quote and we will advise.
